2004 - It was the excursion day for the students of Smart Reader Kids™
(Sungai Chua, Kajang). This time
they headed west to High5 Bread Town at Section 21, Shah Alam,
Selangor.
High5 Bread Town is the first
of its kind in the world! The kids enjoyed the fascinating world of
bread-making that spans more than 5,000 years! The kids learned
about the history of bread from media screening, interactive
displays, and colorful murals. The courteous tour guides explained
the kids how bread making evolved through history. From the ancient
Egypt through the Iron Age, the Roman and Viking Periods, right
through the Industrial Revolution to the present day. Every era
offers its own improvements in terms of grain quality, the milling
and baking process, and the shape and texture of bread.
The kids were also fascinated to know
that "sandwich" as we know it today was introduced long
time ago by "Earl of Sandwich", a prominent member
of Georgian society. All because he never had time to sit down to a
proper meal!
The kids were also mesmerized by
larger-than-life bread making equipments such as mixer, oven and
toaster.
Before the factory tour, the kids
were taken passing the time tunnel where the "future
bread-based products" were displayed. After that, the kids
strolled leisurely on "skywalk", an elevated 880 feet
walkway, observing the automated production of breads and buns
during the factory tour. The High5 factory is equipped with
automated equipments and machineries to achieve optimum efficiency
with daily production exceeds 1 million loafs of bread.
After the factory tour, the kids
walked through Machinery Museum where valuable antique bread-making
equipments were displayed including the "Founder Machine",
designed by the the Company's founder in the 60's.
The kids spent about 90 minutes at High5
Bread Town and at the end of the visit, the kids were delighted
to receive surprise High5 products.
The visit ended with group photo
session with thank you notes to High5's courteous tour guides: Joe
Wong, Chris and Wai Peng. Thank You!
